What this application does? It can detect if the vehicle in which you are moving has had an accident and then it automatically sends an alert to the contacts that you have previously selected. These alarms can be sent by email, SMS and conventional voice call with an automatic locution.
To whom sends the alarms? Whoever you want. When running the application the first time, it is necessary to set up the email and/or phone number of the person you want to contact in case of emergency. You can enter as many emails as you want, separating them with semicolon. You can do this in the 'settings' menu. This application DOES NOT send the emergency alarms to any emergency center, unless the user configure it.
When can it be used? Whenever you want. However, it is much more effective in situations where there is a possibility that no one else see that we have suffered an accident. For instance:
Laura must to do a long trip with her car very late at night. She is going to drive on some roads with little traffic. She turns on the MEC application.
John wants a ride with his motorbike, but no one else can go with him. He launches MEC application, and configures it to warn his friends in case of emergency.
Peter, Maria and George are going to ride with their mountain bikes. All three have turned on the MEC app, and they have set it up to warn each other. George has a bike without full suspension frame, so Peter and Maria goes faster than him when they are going downhill. Some minutes later...
... George get a puncture and he has not spare parts. He uses the MEC app to send a manual alert to Peter and Maria, so htwy will know where exactly is George.
... George have an accident and he brakes his ankle. MEC is already sending an alert to Peter and Maria, who warn to the emergency services and indicate exactly where is George.
Alfred has a daughter that will go skiing with her friends next weekend. She doesn't drive, but Alfred turns on the MEC app on his daughter's mobile. Now he is more quiet, knowing that if something happens he will know at the moment.
Martha's car has broken on a secondary road. She uses the MEC app in order to send a manual alarm to her insurance company. This way she indicates them where exactly they have to pick her up.
These are only some examples. Anyway, it is always better to warn sooner than later!!
Does it detect ALL the traffic crashes, even the light ones? No, it doesn't. The application has been programmed to detect traffic crashes above a certain level of roughness. This means that, if the crash is at a low speed (taking into account if we are going by car, motorbike or bike), there will be no alarm.
Does it detect all the SEVERE crashes? The application has an algorithm that has been developed by two engineers with more than 11 years of experience in research and development projects in the automotive field. It has been designed to detect all the serious traffic crashes. During all the tests on road that have been done along the project, the algorithm has been tunned in order to detect all the risky situations, with good results.
However, as it happens with all the applications and systems, we can not guarantee the detection of all the emergency situations. In the worst case the result would be the same as going without the MEC app.
Are there false alarms? Again, the crash detection algorithm has been developed to avoid false alarms. There are many factors that must take place at the same time for the application to send an alarm. Moreover, before sending an alarm, there is always a 59 seconds countdown that allows the user to cancel the alert. This countdown has an audible alarm even with the phone in vibration mode.
If you have tested the application and there was a false alarm, you can send us an email describing how it was. This way we will try to enhace day by day.

In any case, it is always better to send a false alarm without having suffered an accident, than have an accident and not send the alarm!
